Sterling Eccles Moonstone Front Window Skylight Repair in North Devon, South West
A skylight repair may sound like a scary and expensive repair but it doesn’t need to be. Repair options can be extremely cost effective depending on whether you choose to have a reseal or reseal and refit.
Repairs of skylights and pan windows on older caravans are inevitable. So whichever option you choose you’ll need to address these immediately to prevent further damage to your caravan.
This week we had the task of repairing a front skylight / pan window on a well cared for Sterling Eccles Moonstone caravan situated on Stowford Farm Meadows Campsite in Woolacombe. How lucky are we to work on these stunning North Devon Campsites!
Leaking front Skylight
The customer had noticed a leak at the front of the caravan but it was difficult for him to determine where the leak originated. This being due to the plastic window surrounds on the interior of the caravan.
Historical Skylight issues
Upon investigation, it was obvious that the leak was coming from a failed seal on the front skylight window. The skylight showed signs of historical issues as someone had resealed previously. This was done with insufficient quality sealant which had dried out and cracked – allowing water to find it’s way through.

The standard method of repairing a leaking skylight
The standard method of repair would be to remove the skylight window and apply fresh adhesive. But, due to the age of the caravan and the previous methods of repair, it was determined that the window may not come out in one piece.
This would have increased the cost of repair. And, due to the lack of availability for the replacement window, would have been a lengthier process for repair.
Working with the customers budget to complete the best repair
With the Winter weather kicking in, a decision was made by the customer to have the front window re-sealed instead of replaced. We always work with whatever is best for our customers, so we were happy to move forward with the repair on this basis.
The Skylight repair
The previous repairs made it a more complex fix as we would first have to completely remove the old sealant. In addition, the original front vinyl graphics overlapped the area where sealant would be applied. Because of this, we had to trim these back to achieve a 100% weatherproof seal.
Skylight sealant repair done correctly to an almost factory finish
From there, we applied the correct sealant and used specialist sealant tools to create an almost factory finish. Both ourselves and our customer were happy with end result.

Skylight repairs for all budgets
Although this is not the ideal way to fix a leaking skylight it was one the customer decided would suit his timeline and budget best. If you have a similar issue, get in touch and we can talk through the best options for your needs.
We offer a full window repair service including repair of existing windows & seals, remove and refit of existing windows or full window replacement.
